I was so excited to photograph this senior and his guitar for his senior portraits. While music is not my talent, I have a great appreciation for it and those that love it. It’s an art form just like photography and requires passion and dedication.
I first met this senior photographing his Air Force JROTC unit for composite photos. This year when I visited his school, I remembered him from the year before. He comes off quite and serious especially in a crowd. (At least when I was around.) When we got together for his senior portraits, I was really glad we got to talking because his talents had me floored. I snuck on his IG account and checked things out a bit. MAN! This guy can play a guitar! And he sings too!
He is self-taught which completely blows my mind. And while the guitar isn’t the only instrument he plays, it is his favorite.
He wants to keep playing, making music a big part of his future. While I am trained to know, I hope this senior takes his guitar and creates some amazingness for us all to hear. I really think it’s worth pursuing. It’s no surprise that I’m a big fan of the arts in schools. I think it’s programs like this that help kids explore their abilities and push their limits. They learn dedication, failure, and find the strength they have to pull themselves back up.
The best part of my job is being able to connect with people. We had a great session at Independence Park in Charlotte, but I also got a chance to get to know one of the many cadets graduating this year. And that meant a lot to me.
